Toccara Melvin was born and raised on the north side of Houston, Texas in the Acres Homes Neighborhood and began acting at a very young age – 3 months old to be exact. Her grandmother, who was over the drama department of their church, cast Toccara at Baby Jesus for a Christmas play in December 1985. Toccara’s parents noticed that she would put on GRAND Productions with her Barbie Dolls and would act out movies that she had seen or stage plays that she would create; to their surprise, these stage plays were will constructed and thought out. At the age of 4 she was enrolled in an Afrocentric Development Academy which focused on African principles and had a phenomenal drama department. Performing skits and plays all over Houston with the academy, Toccara was able to hone her craft and master stage presence.  Once her tenure with the academy came to an end and Toccara advanced to other institutions of learning she continued to act in church plays. In the summer of 2000 she had the opportunity to be on a movie set for the very first time and she was bitten even harder by the Acting Bug. While matriculated at Texas Southern University Toccara was granted the opportunity to interview Actress, Loretta Devine, take an acting class with notable playwright and actor, Thomas Melancon and Philosophy which doubled as a speech and debate course led by Dr. Thomas F. Freeman. In the years to come she would find herself landing leading, supporting, and extra roles in stage productions, web series, and movies, also performing dramatic monologues, and even modeling in runway fashion shows; thus her greatest work is yet to come.
